Contemporary Dance Classes

Kids & Teens | Beginner Friendly | Recreational Dance | Richmond Hill

Explore movement, musicality and artistry while developing strength, control and confidence.

Movement With Intention

Contemporary gives dancers the opportunity to explore movement in a different way.

Drawing from Ballet, Jazz and modern movement, the style combines technical foundations with musical interpretation, creativity and expression.

Dancers learn not only how to execute movement, but how to understand its quality, intention and relationship to the music.

Contemporary at Vlad’s Dance Company

At VDC, Contemporary classes combine technical development with artistic exploration.

Teachers guide dancers through exercises and choreography that challenge them to use their bodies in new ways while building on the foundations they have developed through their broader dance training.

As dancers gain experience, Contemporary often becomes an important space for developing individuality and discovering their own artistic voice.

Is Contemp Right for My Child?

Contemporary is particularly well suited to dancers who enjoy expressive movement, storytelling and interpreting music.

Because the style draws heavily from technical foundations, it is often especially valuable for dancers who are already developing experience in Ballet or Jazz.

If you’re unsure whether Contemporary is appropriate for your dancer’s age or current experience, our office team can help.

Part of the VDC Recreational Program

Contemporary is offered as part of VDC’s Recreational Program alongside Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Hip Hop.

The broader Recreational Program is designed for dancers ages 2.5–18 who want quality training in a supportive, non-competitive environment.
